I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO ~ 2

Surely not used to sharing living quarters with so many people, especially under Amalia’s loving ~ yet domineering and matriarchal rule, my grandfather grew very tired of not being the captain of his own ship.

Lito ~ the ultimate Germanic/Hispanic macho and even more headstrong than his sister-in-law Amalia, seriously got into it with her on an Easter Sunday morning arguing vehemently over their respective dinner preferences. And just like an umpire ~ Amalia threw them all out!

Having to walk 2 miles down the hill past El Camino Real to the train station in a monsoon-like downpour, my mom’s, Lita’s and aunt’s once proud Easter bonnets looked like soggy lasagna noodles perched on their heads.

Having to eat very humble pie and move in temporarily with her sister Ines ~ the only 1 of all of her 9 siblings that she experienced the utmost jealously laden emotional drama with, Lita wanted to move out the very same day that they knocked on her sister’s door, with their suitcases still stacked up on the street curb.

Even though Ines and her gentle and welcoming Peruvian husband Manuel lived in close proximity to world famous and beautiful Golden Gate Park where they would take idyllic walks, Lito very patriarchally craved freedom for himself and his own family.

Working overtime every day as well as on Saturdays and Sundays, Lito soon had the money necessary to rent a little apartment in the very Italian and close-knit North Beach area; where they all developed a taste for super savory authentic Tuscany-like delicatessen meats, stacked high on super crunchy world renowned San Francisco sourdough bread.

Always a man with a gargantuan appetite for physical pleasure, Lito stressed to Lita that she needed to buy the very best food available ~ no matter what the cost.

Disclaimer

To protect the innocent and those antagonists that are dead or still alive, I have purposely and respectfully changed the names of all of the people characterized in this book that contributed to the actual 100% true events that took place.

The only persons in the narratives whose real “names are named” ala Don Corleone are my wife Christine, daughter Alexandra and son Christian.
