I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO ~ 5

They soon started dating exclusively (who knows about my dad?) and much to my mom’s surprise ~ no objections from Lito.

Their whirlwind romance culminated in getting married in North Beach’s St. Peter & Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in 1950.

As fate would have it, the little house directly across the street from Lito & Lita’s became available to rent.

Dutifully apprehensive and fully aware of my grandfather’s dictatorial demeanor and my grandmother’s meddling ways, my dad acquiesced and moved in.

As no surprise to my father, Lito and Lita vehemently protested when he painted ½ the kitchen ceiling bright canary yellow and the other ½ screaming fire engine red.

Arguing that it was his house and that he could do whatever he wanted, that ceiling nevertheless became a heated topic of conversation, whenever Lita and Lito came over to visit ~ just like Fred & Ethel Mertz did to Ricky Ricardo and Lucy on the 50's top rated TV show "I Love Lucy."

And that was very, very often ~ so thought my dad.

But not like the Mertz's, Lito and Lito at least knocked...............
