MY ZIG~ZAG TO HEALING~12:1

“TOGA! TOGA!”

As John “Bluto” Belushi screamed, we began Junior year at only boys Archbishop Riordan Roman Catholic High School totally prepared to take partying hearty to a whole new level.

Most of us having had summer jobs, I was the second next to Mario Rigatoni to have a car in our class.

Thanks to my Mom’s intervention and recommendation, I was hired at Safeway Food Stores on August 16, 1967 ~ 6 days after my 16th birthday, at a union apprenticeship wage of a $1.96 per hour.

My dad always wanting a better relationship with me and tremendously growing his insurance business in Puerto Rico and The Dominican Republic, offered to help me with a down payment to buy a car.

My Mom driving me to the different dealers on San Francisco's “Auto Row” Van Ness Avenue, I decided on purchasing a 1965 Buick Skylark with an 8 cylinder Wildcat engine.

Only 3 years old, the car was in cherry shape and blessed that gas was only $0.30 per gallon, I started to have the need for speed that would continue for the rest of my life.

Parking behind Father Hinger’s physical science laboratory in the teachers’ lot, I was constantly told by the administration to park on the street or they would have me towed.

Always making an excuse that I had a sprained ankle and could not walk that far, they eventually relented and left me alone; which caused great jealousy amongst my peers.

The cliques at lunchtime grew tighter as well as more rejective and were divided into "The Wimps", "The Vikings", "The Table" and "The Outsiders" ~ that ate in the parking lot or on the bleachers.

A vociferous member of "The Table", I enjoyed the camaraderie of my way out-of-line wild friends.

Arguing with chubby and always sweating Mr. Fong ~ the cafeteria manager, I constantly criticized his warmed up leftovers on the steam table; invariably ordering customized fresh triple cheeseburgers and fresh French fries which he really, really hated me for.

Pray to The Holy Spirit constantly and simply from your heart, just as earnestly as He was your very best friend.

+ through Divine Intimacy ~ He IS!
