18 Signs You Are Experiencing A Dark Night Of The Soul, Otherwise Known As An Existential Crisis Avatar

“The dark night of the soul is a spiritual depression, a kind of existential crisis that requires a deep and painful dip that must be experienced before enlightenment.
The "dark night of the soul" is a concept that has been discussed for millennia, typically associated with a poem written by St. John of the Cross.
It references the sort of spiritual depression or detox that someone has to go through to "wake up." But if you're experiencing it and don't know what's happening, it can be really scary."
Most scary experience of my entire life!!!
1. You're confused because you feel like you "should" be happy right now.
That's the thing about the dark night of the soul - It usually comes up right at the moment in which you have every reason to be content.
What's happening is you're seeing how the external things didn't heal you. Your illusions about what really matters are breaking down.
The part of you that is still chasing outside things to make you happy is dying. Once it does, you can begin actually doing things that make you whole.
To be totally honest, I was not confused about not being happy at Christmas 2019, because this was the first year that I was totally disgusted with the pressures that people feel in having to put up light displays, extravagant decorations and give presents to people that they don’t even like but choose to because of wanting approval and eschewing the guilt felt in not.
40 years ago having already learned the paganistic reasons for Christmas and seeing through all of the greedy commercial purposes for this holiday, I had already learned that joyfulness is an inside job and that Christmas as it was being observed had nothing to do with the birth of Jesus Christ.
